DTS brine and clay-bath graders are designed to separate low solids, glassy potatoes, and other floating material such as wood, plastic and hollow-heart potatoes from the process. A large water filled hopper is fitted with a water jet that directs floating tubers and other floating material to a series of rotary paddles that remove floating material from the system. An inclined outfeed auger transports the good quality potatoes (the ones that sink) from the hopper over a dewatering section onto the next process step. The system includes a water circulation system with buffer tank, where salt or clay is added to maintain the desired concentration.
